SERVICES OFFERED TO MEMBERS

What's New:

Ladner Sediment Group Meeting June 18th :
The Group chaired by John Roscoe and representing various community elements including Delta Council and the Ladner Business Association, is working with Port Metro to implement dredging of secondary channels in Ladner Reach, total cost estimated at $2.5 million. At their June meeting, the Group heard from Hay & Company that river modeling to plan the best approach to dredging will cost about $120,000 to be paid by Port Metro. “With this information in hand,” John Roscoe said, “we can then solicit all levels of Government and beneficial users to assist financially to get this underway.”

A Sign of Global Warming:
Richmond Engineer, Dave Semple, was a guest at the LSG meeting and offered an interesting indication of global warming. He said as a result of rising ocean levels and consequent pressures of salt water, it is becoming increasingly difficult to draw fresh water from the Fraser River to satisfy agricultural needs.

Ladner Harbour Cleanup:
Private contractors have begun a clean-up of Ladner Harbour but not without incident. At least one derelict boat sank during operations and a floating home overturned.

Council Hears Plans for Harbour Make-over:
FHAP President, Chris Scurr, reports an enthusiastic reception to the presentation of the Ladner Business Association to the Delta Ladner Harbour Committee on Thursday, June 25th. The LBA described a vision of Ladner Harbour as a “special place that has languished for a long time”. Public input will be sought over the next 12 months. The Harbour Committee is made up of planning and parks staff as well as members of the local community, led by Councillors George Hawksworth and Heather King as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively.

The Annual Association Members Social is set for Sunday, September 20th 2 – 6 pm. The details will be in forthcoming August Newsletter.
